Thursday, June 14, 2012 marked Flag Day in the United States, commemorating the adoption of the flag of the United States. The adoption of the flag of the United States occurred in 1777, at the Second Continental Congress. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Many states have celebrations to recognize our flag, including long running parades and state holidays.
